The West Michigan Sports Commission is a proud sponsor of the Mary Free Bed Wheelchair & Adaptive Sports program, which offers a variety of co-ed teams, classes and clinics designed for patients and community members with limited mobility and other physical impairments.
Participating in sports and recreation isn’t just good for physical healing, as there are social and psychological advantages to incorporating athletic and leisure activities into one’s life.
Sports offered through Mary Free Bed include wheelchair basketball, quad rugby, wheelchair fencing, sled hockey, wheelchair lacrosse, and wheelchair & handcycle racing teams, as well as clinics and classes in swimming, rock climbing, yoga, archery, and skiing.
With the COVID-19 pandemic having forced the cancelation or postponement of all classes, clinics, events and practices, community funding will play a key role in resuming programming for the hundreds of athletes served by Mary Free Bed.
